🗓 May 2021 Goals In Review

First, let's review the goals I set for May and how I matched up:

Release one long-form Intermediate Three.js Shader Course ✅
Release 4-10 premium Intermediate Three.js lessons ❌
Release one long-form CSS Course ❌
Plan CSS course integration with quizzes and code challenges so everything meshes well ❌
Reach $300 MRR (3 net-positive subscribers by end of month) ✅

The personal grade I give myself: C-. Although I got the long-form Three.js shader course out, and I reached my associated monetary goal, I wasn't able to complete the premium lessons or the long-form CSS course.

One can rationalize literally anything they do to make themselves feel better about a particular scenario (I didn't do the CSS course because my day-job clients were ****, I just couldn't find the time, my dog ate the course, etc...), however, I'm not a big fan of excuses since in the end, the content wasn't released, and that's really all that matters when it comes to running a content production business.

So what can be done to enhance the ability of successfully completing goals? Well, I've been reading a book on scientifically achieving your goals called "Stick With It," by Sean Young. The first fifty pages or so go over the technique of using "stepladders"— creating small goals that incrementally push you towards one larger goal, accepting that some goals are simply not-realistic (dreams).

Although my goals from the April retrospective aren't dreams (they are doable), they are still pretty hefty goals, and I think the large mental load may be hampering my ability to complete them in the first place.

Utilizing the stepladders technique for this go-around, I think it's more likely I'll complete my goals when I state them with the steps required to complete them like so:

Goal 3: Update Beginning of Web Apps Course

The first two videos are outdated due to frameworks changing over time. This will allow new users to get started without errors due to time.
